Our story
It began with a pile of storm-felled walnut
In 2018 a spring storm took down a stand of black walnut two ridges over from Asheville. The trees were headed for firewood. Our founder, Marcus Hale, borrowed a mill, spent a summer cutting them into slabs, and stacked the lot in a rented barn to dry.
The first twelve tables sold at a Saturday market in under three hours. People kept asking the same question — why is everything else so much worse? — and the honest answer is that most furniture is built to survive shipping, not use.
"We would rather sell you one table in twenty years than four in ten."
Eight years on we run three small workshops, dry our own lumber for six weeks, and still put the maker's name on the underside of every piece that leaves the building.
What we hold to
Three non-negotiables
Solid wood only
No veneer, no MDF, no particleboard — anywhere, including the parts you never see. Every board is traceable to a mill within 150 miles.
Small-batch craft
We make eight to twenty of a piece at a time. Joinery is cut on machines and fitted by hand, and one maker sees each piece through to finish.
Carbon-neutral shipping
Every delivery is offset through a hardwood restoration program in the Blue Ridge, and all packaging is plastic-free and recyclable.
